Comcast Broadband Plays Hardball

Comcast has started sending out cease and desist letters to people for using too much bandwidth. They give the customer a month to decrease their usage. Problem is, they don’t tell them how much they were using or how much they allow. Several customers have reported being shut off from the broadband connection even after reducing their load on the system. It seems that the FCC should have a hand in this, but it does not seem to be widespread enough of a problem. Maybe a blog post like this will help.

  1. It’s funny that at the same time that I was broadband shopping, this story came out. In most Terms of Service or contract with TelCos there is usually a clause that says that they can terminate service for whatever reason they see fit. But that doesn’t make it right, it’s downright despicable and a little misleading. They’re obviously not selling unlimited internet which they used to tout all the time, and of course how fast they are with Speedboost, ridiculous, why have Speedboost if I’m going to get the boot the next day.

  2. This is crazy, they should clearly tell their customers what acceptable limits are or better yet put a software cap on it to ensure customer doesn’t over consumes the bandwidth. Sending out cease and desist message once customer has already consumed excess bandwidth is poor business decision.

  3. Thats was funny lol. Thanks for the sharing.
