I do pay attention to the tickers, but like you said, you have already missed something on the tv that you were watching. I have noticed that, the tickers on the news channel, does relay some news, but also they relay what is going on with celebrities. Tickers are really a good thing when you want to know what's going on, but at the same time you want to be able to watch your favorite tv show as well. I know exactly what you mean. Sometimes I like watching Animal Planet, and some animal overlays start popping up on the screen. And the news channels are the worst! The ticker has nothing to do with what they're saying. I've actually was watching a show and the freaking overlay in the corner was making sound, that's even more annoying I just get fed up and change channels.
